YMCA after school programs provide a safe and fun place for your child to explore and learn. During the year, we will focus on three exciting areas of interest, discovering these areas through science, food projects, games, and art. We will entice your child to try new things, be bold, and grow through their experiences.

Adventure in the Fall - Join us this fall as we explore inside and out all the wonders that the Virginia Blue Ridge has to offer. We will enjoy learning such things as Osmosis, life cycles, and lots of cool science experiments. We will find that fall is a time to slow down and reflect on nature as well as ourselves. A time to learn to let go, just like nature is doing!

Creativity in the Winter - While we might be inside for a lot of winter, it is still a time to explore and learn. We will enjoy learning some new recipes that we can eat, as well as recipes that we just play with like snow, slime, etc. We will also fight off the winter blues with some aerobic exercise and follow it with some mindful yoga. There will be no hibernation happening here! There are all sorts of things to do inside, we just have to search.

Community in the Spring - Let's get outside and explore again.... we will start off this season by learning about regrowth, birth, and the continuation of the life cycle. We will explore our surroundings and help our community by cleaning up, planting, or doing some general upkeep in our areas. Our Y supports the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility and we are guided by these values as we work to strengthen the foundations of community. We will learn to be our best selves and sing out loud as the birds do!
